Day 348: Like Father Like Son
My son was hungry for an evening snack. I suggested he grab something healthy like fruit or yogurt. I was floored to see he created a yogurt parfait for himself (mind you this is an 11 year old boy that still uses his shirt for a napkin). This was obviously something he learned from watching his dad (see Day 312). It fascinated me (and scared me) to think of how much of what we do our children are observing and absorbing. My son learned an appreciation for food and presentation not because he was ever directly taught it, but simply from observing his dad's attention to preparing food. It made me realize our actions and choices are what teach our children...not our lectures...and I am grateful for this reminder to help me be more aware and pray for the guidance to be the person my children deserve and need me to be.
